Socrates....hero or no?

After reading "The Apology" and hearing the story of Socrates, would you consider him a hero? Explain your answer.

No, I don't think Socrates is a hero. He didn't die for anyone else, he just died for what HE believed in. Dying for something you love doesn't make you a hero.

Personally i think that socrates is indeed a hero because he stood up for everything that he knew was right. he fought for what he belived in and that really insipres me to do the same.

yes i would because the oracle had told him he was the wisest. He didnt believe it he wanted to prove that he wasnt so he went aroud questioning the young. Socartes clamed to now nothing but got accused of knowing everything. He killed for it so that makes him a hero in everyway.

I do not think that Socrates was a hero because he didn't really do anything heroic. Although he died, he died for himself more than anyone else and even though he may have been considered a hero for that, i don't think that that particular action qualifies you as a hero. I think that a hero is someone who does somehting for the good of others, and not someone who does things for himself.

He is and isnt a hero. No he didnt save the world and no he didnt save a woman from a burning building bus he did stand up for what he believed in. It may not have been what other people believe in but he stood up for that and went to death for it. That inspires other people to stand up for what they believe in so in a way he is a hero and in a way he didnt.

There are a majority of people who stand up for their beliefs, and there are a majority who don't. In someone elses eyes I think he is a hero but in mine he isn't.

How many people would rather die for their principles than renounce what they believe in? In my eyes, in a world where character can be in short supply, Socrates is a hero and a example.
